Mr Jones makes exceedingly good watches, and here's your chance to get your hands on one of its brand new editions, a rather lovely version of its Sun and Moon watch by illustrator Kirsten Ulve...

This special edition watch has been designed for Mr Jones by New York illustrator Kirsten Ulve, who explains: “I like the notion of doing away with specific time telling, and embracing a more relaxed attitude. Symbols indicate the general time: dreamy unicorn sightings in the morning, the universal quest for cheese in the day, then some heavy drinking in the evening, followed by a bump in the night and monsters in the wee hours. Typical day kind of stuff without the need for those bothersome numbers.”

The Sun and Moon watch shows the time based on the position of the Sun or Moon in the crescent shaped sky in the top section of the watch dial. The Sun moves across the sky from the left to the right, indicating the hours from 6am to 6pm, and The Moon indicates the hours from 6pm until 6am.

Sun and Moon watches were first produced in Britain in the late 1600s during a period of experimentation with the watch face and how best to represent the time. Eventually the concentric hour and minute hands became established as the universal standard.
