The Horniman Museum in south-east London is opening a new installation space with an exciting display of artist Polly Morgan’s taxidermy work that will place her creations alongside historical examples of the art.
Works by artist Polly Morgan, who has spearheaded a revival in the art of taxidermy over the last ten years, are going on display in the Horniman Museum’s Natural History Gallery — a space not short of some examples of taxidermy already.
The temporary display, titled Taxidermy Is Dead (Long Live Taxidermy), promises to show visitors that taxidermy is an evolving, rather than anachronistic, art form by situating Morgan’s work alongside new displays that will showcase highlights from the Horniman’s Natural History Collection.
As the inaugural display in a new space created by the Horniman to exhibit contemporary installations – focusing on those that show how artists and other practitioners have been inspired by the Horniman’s collections – Morgan’s work sets the bar high for this ambitious and friendly museum.
