New Designers has been running for twenty-nine years this year, and over that time has established itself as one of the must-visit destinations for retail buyers and potential employers to hunt down talented graduates. As per the stander format, this year’s show will be split into two parts, beginning on the 25 June.

Part 1 will include textiles, fashion, accessories, contemporary applied arts, jewellery and precious metalwork. Part 2 will include visual communications, furniture, product design, motion arts and theatre design. Spanning both Part 1 and Part 2, the One Year On exhibition is a showcase of more than fifty designers in the first year of their business with an entrepreneurial-slant. This year, One Year On has a new curator in Gemma Fabbri, the founder of London design studio Scene and co-founder of online design shop FAO. She will replace the outgoing curator furniture designer Jethro Macey.

This year’s beefed-up talks programme will include events aimed at both young designers and for the public. Highlights include a panel discussion featuring Bravo Charlie Mike Hotel creative director Ben Chatfield and Barbican curator Catherine Ince on the topic ‘How do great designers transform the ordinary into the extraordinary?’, a talk on how to protect your intellectual property, key design trend forecasting for the next year, digital marketing advice and interviews with individual designer-makers.
