Berlin-based design event Typo celebrates its twentieth anniversary this year, with an eclectic mix of speakers from the graphic design world and beyond, centred around the theme ‘Character’.

It’s twenty years ago since a group of type lovers – Neville Brody and Erik Spiekermann among them – joined forces to hold a conference in Berlin, paving the way for sister events in San Francisco and, in 2011, in London. Celebrating this milestone, Typo returns to Berlin in May with an impressive range of speakers centred around theme ‘Character’. Although the conference started of with a strong typographic focus, today it’s more wide-ranging, with the emphasis on inviting inspiring creates from a number of different design disciplines to cross-pollinate ideas – even star furniture designer Konstantin Grcic is on the bill this year.

Kesselskramer boss Erik Kessels, graphic designer Aaron James Draplin (whose clients include Esquire and Nike), terrifyingly adventurous photographer Daniel Josefsohn and doodle fiend Jon Burgerman look to be particular highlights of the conference.

Other speakers announced so far include: Kenzi Benabdallah, Johannes Bergerhausen, Tina Roth Eisenberg, Francesco Franchi, Matthias Frey, Bertram Schmidt-Friderichs, Alexander Ginter, Jon Gray, Konstantin Grcic, Luc(as) de Groot, Karim Habib, Josh Higgins, Manfred Hild, Eric Jarosinski, Daniel Josefsohn, Sophie Lovell, Gemma O’Brien, Oliver Reichenstein, Mariko Takagi, Martin Tiefenthaler, Martin Wenzel, Onur Yazıcıgil, and George Zisiadis. There's more to be announced and we'll be running a special ticket giveaway closer to the event – watch this space. TYPO Berlin
