Spain's 46th Laus Awards has just launched its Call for Entries. It's celebrating by opening up the awards to international entries for the first time, and commissioning a series of striking posters on the theme of Connections…
Organised by the Spanish national design association AGD-FAD, the annual Laus Awards have always recognised the very best of the country's graphic design and art direction. For the first time, this year the awards are open to international entrants, both professional and students.
To celebrate its new incarnation and help spread the word, Mallorcan-based board member Astrid Stavro has commissioned forty-six original posters from a raft of big-name designers and creative directors based on the idea of 'Connections.' As well as featuring in the Awards Annual, all of the posters will be exhibited during the Laus Awards ceremony, which will be held at Barcelona’s Design Museum. The posters will also become part of the Museum's permanent collection (always nice to see an institution which sees the value of collecting graphic design).
“The intention of the campaign is to work like a bait,” says Stavro. “Small hook, small fish. Big hook, big fish. In a nutshell, we are encouraging and challenging Spanish designers to match their immense talent at an international level and vice versa.” Graphic design judges include Julia Hasting, Pablo Martin, Wladimir Marnich and Adrian Shaughnessy, and the deadline for entries is 31 January 2016.
