The London Art Book Fair returns to East London’s Whitechapel Gallery this month, with more than 90 exhibitors of artists’ books, catalogues, monographs and zines – making it the largest edition yet.

You could argue that the designers behind artists’ books and exhibition catalogue don’t have a very difficult job. Supplied with well-shot imagery of aesthetically arresting works of art, all they need to do it present these pieces without distracting the reader. But it’s when you look at the variety in the world of art books that you realise what a fertile, creative discipline these type of publications are in themselves. This breadth of creativity is something that The Whitechapel Gallery in East London will celebrate later this month as it brings together more than 90 exhibitors of artists’ books, catalogues, monographs and zines.

Stalwart publishers such as Thames and Hudson, Ridinghouse, Onestar Press and Hatje Cantz will be in attendance, alongside smaller outfits such as Nobrow, AMBruno and Onomatopee. As well as stalls, the fair will also host a packed events schedule, including talks by Jeremy Deller, Canadian artist and publisher AA Bronson (who also co-founded the New York Art Book Fair), and author Douglas Coupland on technology, language and identity. There will also be a number of book-binding workshops led by London Centre for Book Arts, and special commissions from publishing platform Blurb and visual arts studio Jotta.
