Jeweller Jacqueline Mina’s unorthodox approach to traditional goldsmithing is documented in a short film, ahead of her appearance at craft fair Collect.
“Gold is a material that allows you to explore any kind of technique,” says jeweller Jacqueline Mina in a new short film about her practice. “You can shape it, draw it down very thin, hammer it flat and create all kinds of textures.” Mina’s latest jewellery collection, which features pleated and curved sheets of 0.18mm-thick gold, will be exhibited as part of the Craft Council’s Collect, which opens today.
The film, which was created by Guy Gotto, Evan Gildersleeve, Greg Niemand, Catherine Perrott and Joe Mannion, explores Mina’s extensive technical knowledge as well as providing insight into her studio life and working practices. It’s the second film made by the collective dedicated to inspiring craftspeople. The first, Print, celebrated the work of Perrott Bespoke Printing, a family-run printing press that spans four generations.Collect: The International Art Fair for Contemporary Objects
