We’re thrilled to be able to offer two talented Grafik readers the chance to earn a free scholarship place at Print Camp – amazing week-long summer schools being run by Ditto Press this July and August.
Great ideas for books, magazines and publications of all kinds are not in short supply. But far rarer are people with the technical know-how to turn ideas into well-printed reality, then get them out to an audience. This summer, you have the chance to become one of those people, and learn insider knowledge on all aspects of printing and independent publishing from the experts.
Print Camp will be hosted at Ditto HQ in East London by Ben Freeman (founder of Ditto) and Jamie Reid (art director of Dazed & Confused and former art director of POP magazine and Arena Homme+).
Print nut Freeman set up Ditto in 2009 and has led the vanguard of a new breed of innovative independent presses in the UK. As well as producing work for design clients, Ditto is also a publisher, with an impressive catalogue of books, zines, magazines and pretty much any other printed matter you care to mention.
Print Camp attendees will get hands-on tutoring in offset printing, risograph printing, artwork set-up, binding, finishing, screen printing, foil-blocking, case-binding, perfect binding and using an industrial guillotine (which is really fun). Print Camp covers everything from generating ideas, editing and art direction to printing and learning about distribution, so you’ll leave with your own expertly crafted print publication and the know-how to develop more. All this, under the tutelage of two industry super stars. Time to get busy with your applications…
There will be just ten places available on each Print Camp and applicants will be chosen on merit. Grafik has teamed up with Ditto to offer two free scholarship places at Print Camp – one in July and one in August – each worth £495.
Applications open today (Friday 12th June) and close on Thursday 2nd July. To apply, send a link to your online portfolio and a brief covering letter to education@dittopress.co.uk with the subject line ‘GRAFIK’.
Successful applicants will be announced on Friday 3 July 2015.
